Excessively long line-ups and hold-ups continue to pester lots of airports throughout Canada, particularly at Toronto’s Pearson Airport. COVID-19 procedures like random screening and health concerns are simply among the factors. Do we still require them?

Dr. Sumon Chakrabarti states at this stage of the pandemic, the procedures are not clinically beneficial – with the large bulk of Canadians immunized and the others “mainly immune” from direct exposure, and it’s time to re-examine and “ditch a great deal of this theatre.”

“I do not believe we’re really doing anything that’s clinically helpful, and it’s undoubtedly triggering a great deal of hold-up in travel, making travel really hard.”

On the vaccine required for travel at this moment in the pandemic, Chakrabarti called it prejudiced:

“You’re essentially now simply keeping individuals who are not able to get or who do not wish to get immunized or are not able to get immunized off an airplane for no excellent medical factor … I believe it’s time to now drop that required and permit individuals who have not gotten the vaccine to now board aircrafts and trains to be able to go see their enjoyed ones.”
