China reports 249 brand-new COVID cases for Feb 25 vs 224 a day earlier

BEIJING, Feb 26 (Reuters) – Mainland China reported 249 brand-new validated coronavirus infections for Feb 25, health authorities stated on Saturday, up from 224 a day earlier, with a record number of imported cases consistingof lots amongst arrivals from Hong Kong, where infections are rising. read more

Of the brand-new cases, 156 were imported and 93 were inyourarea transferred, the National Health Commission stated.

Among the inyourarea transferred cases, 32 were in Inner Mongolia, almost all in its capital of Hohhot, while 30 were in the southern province of Guangdong, consistingof 19 in Dongguan and 9 in the city of Shenzhen.

Of the imported cases, 59 were in Guangdong, which borders Hong Kong, which was the source of 55 cases, according to the provincial health authority. The business city of Shanghai, a center for the coupleof global flights staying under China’s aggressive pandemic steps, accounted for 55 imported cases.

The number of brand-new asymptomatic cases, which China does not categorize as verified cases, was 118, up from 109 a day earlier.

The death toll was thesame at 4,636, with no brand-new deaths. By Friday, mainland China had validated 108,853 cases.
