In spite of years of cautions and preparation, President Trump has actually declared that covid-19 “came out of no place.” He minimized the coronavirus as it started to take hold in the U.S., neglecting the guidance of professionals and politicizing a health crisis. Through interviews with previous Trump administration authorities Mark Harvey and Olivia Troye, in addition to Washington Post press reporters Dan Balz and Yasmeen Abutaleb, “Playing it down” checks out why the White House was sluggish to react to the pandemic, and the significant repercussions of its inactiveness. After months of blended messages, inconsistent policies, dissentious rhetoric– and more than 220,000 deaths– the president continues to firmly insist the infection will one day vanish.
