A man in West Texas was jailed for allegedly requiring a National Guard convoy transferring COVID-19 vaccines off the road Tuesday and holding 11 guard members at gunpoint, authorities said.
Larry Harris, 66, of Arizona, is accused of tailing 3 National Guard vans from a gasoline station, later on declaring to authorities he did so due to the fact that he believed an abducted female and child were inside the vans, according to polices.
After successfully stopping the convoy, Harris identified himself as a detective and required to browse the lorries, Idalou Authorities Chief Eric Williams said in a declaration.
Harris then ordered the guard members out of their lorries at gunpoint, authorities stated.
Authorities said Harris was speaking erratically when he was apprehended. It was not right away clear what led him to think that kidnapping victims were being carried in the vans.
Harris is dealing with several charges, including worsened attack with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint of 11 National Guard members and impersonating a public servant.
He was being kept in prison Tuesday on $44,000 bond.
