Well, that’s one way to find out about the unique coronavirus. “It was like coming out to the zombie armageddon,” Leto told Fallon.

Leto has been open about the strange experience in the past– “Walked out yesterday into a really different world,” the Oscar winner tweeted in March– however host Jimmy Fallon couldn’t stop himself from asking about it throughout their Monday night interview. You were on a retreat.

” Definitely real, yeah,” replied Leto. He described that he was one a “two-week quiet meditation” that needed him to eliminate his phone and any other diversions, so he had no idea that the COVID-19 case count in the United States was increasing significantly. “Simply in that short amount of time, when I came out it was a shutdown, a state of emergency situation, the entire world had actually altered,” stated Leto. “But when we remained in there, they didn’t tell us. We didn’t have our phones, there was no talking, naturally, no eye contact, no TV. And the teachers, they decided: ‘Let’s not disrupt the individuals.'”

It was like Rip Van Winkle,” he said, a reference to Washington Irving’s short story about a male who falls asleep for 20 years and wakes up in a post-Revolutionary America.

” I had this terrific tool to deal with ‘tension’ and things in life,” continued Leto, “However I don’t believe anything can quite prepare any of us for what we all went through in the start.” Even 10 months later on, that could not be more real.
