Ontario verified Canada’s first recognized cases of a new COVID-19 variation that was initially identified in the U.K. but has been discovered in numerous nations including Belgium and Australia.
The province made the statement on Saturday, stating that the two cases were from the Greater Toronto Area and had no recognized travel history, direct exposure or high-risk contacts and remain in self-isolation.
The announcement of cases of this variant come as Ontario’s new province-wide COVID-19 limitations took effect. Abigail Bimman reports on what is known about the 2 cases, what this means for Canada and why health officials are stressing the value of the province’s brand-new lockdown procedures.
