Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Tuesday thanked the province’s very first recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine, saying they put their neighborhood and clients ahead of themselves. Ford included that as of midday Tuesday, around 142 front-line healthcare employees were immunized, with 325 more to get immunized in the future Tuesday at the University Health Network.

Ontario started administering Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines on Monday, starting with healthcare workers at the Rekai Centre long-term care home in Downtown Toronto.

Ford was signed up with by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Lawyer General Sylvia Jones and Gen. Rick Hillier, chair of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution job force.

Following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement that Canada has protected 168,000 Moderna coronavirus vaccines, Hillier said the vaccine will go to long-term care homes “in greatest need” first, including those in “hot zones” or lockdown zones once authorized by Health Canada.

The province reported 2,275 brand-new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, marking a new single-day record, to bring the provincial overall to 144,396
