COPS COULD BREAK up Covid rule-breakers’ Christmas dinners, an authorities and criminal activity commissioner has cautioned.

West Midlands commissioner David Jamieson said officers would have to impose any lockdown rules set by the Government over the festive period, as he also spoke of his fears of a “time bomb” of discontent.

Speaking With the Daily Telegraph, Jamieson stated: “If we believe there’s large groups of people collecting where they shouldn’t be, then authorities will have to intervene.

” If, once again, there’s ostentatious breaking of the guidelines, then the police would need to implement.

” It’s not the police’s task to stop individuals enjoying their Christmas.

” Nevertheless, we exist to enforce the guidelines that the Government makes, and if the Government makes those rules then the Government needs to describe that to the general public.”

Jamieson said he feared that “aggravation” with any potential Christmas constraints after months of Covid controls might also boil over into civil unrest and even riots.

” We’re sitting on a time bomb here,” he stated.

” We’re getting extremely near the phase where you could see a significant surge of disappointment and energy.

” Things are extremely on the edge in a lot of neighborhoods and it wouldn’t take very much to spark off discontent, riots, damage.”

His comments came before Environment Secretary George Eustice said it was “far prematurely” to set out standards about Christmas.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program, the Cabinet minister stated: “This is a rapidly establishing circumstance and we are making judgments all the time about what limitations might be required and what’s suitable to have as restrictions in a particular area.

” It’s far too early to state exactly where things will be by Christmas, but the Prime Minister’s explained he wants people to be able to have a Christmas that’s as near possible as typical.”

He said the Federal government would set out standards “based on the epidemiology of the infection” and “follow the science”.
