In contrast to antigen tests, fast tests that pick up on the existence of antibodies are of little worth in catching active infections in a specific, provided the lag between the start of an infection and the introduction of a detectable antibody reaction to it. Since antigen tests have lower specificity than PCR tests, they can generate high levels of false positives in low-prevalence settings, when a person’s possibility of infection and a test’s incorrect favorable rate are numerically similar.
