Practically one in 5 patients with Covid-19 might only show intestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, according to a review of studies. The findings suggest that abdominal radiologists require to remain alert during the pandemic while imaging patients, the researchers stated. Intestinal signs associated with Covid-19 differ extensively but can include loss of appetite, queasiness, throwing up, diarrhoea and generalized stomach discomfort, they said.
The study, released in the journal Abdominal Radiology, discovered that 18 percent of patients presented with such signs, while 16 per cent of Covid-19 cases may just provide with intestinal symptoms.
“There’s a growing amount of literature showing that stomach symptomatology is a typical presentation for Covid-19,” stated Mitch Wilson, a radiologist and medical lecturer at the University of Alberta in Canada.
The researchers analyzed findings from 36 studies published through July 15 to reach their conclusions.
In addition to intestinal symptoms, they also identified possible signs radiologists should try to find while performing stomach imaging that could be proof of Covid-19 infection.
Those signs consist of swelling of the little and big bowel, air within the bowel wall (pneumatosis) and bowel perforation (pneumoperitoneum), the scientists stated.
The signs are rather unusual, and could show clients with innovative disease, they stated.
