NSW Health has provided an alert for anybody who attended the Bathurst 1000 motor race on the weekend to get checked for COVID if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

On Wednesday, infection residues were spotted in raw sewage in the location.

The sample taken made up wastewater from the weekend, potentially showing a current or previous infection in somebody who participated in or operated at the Bathurst 1000 race, a visitor to Bathurst, or even a local resident.

Visitors to and residents of Bathurst are urged to keep an eye on for any signs of health problem.

They need to immediately isolate and get checked should even the mildest of cold-like signs appear, NSW Health said.

Symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, exhaustion, fever or other signs might be COVID-19

In a statement on Wednesday night, NSW Health stated it was urgently undertaking examinations, that include examining lists of all those understood to have had the virus who attended or operated at the race.

” Sewage testing for molecular markers of SARS-CoV-2, the infection that triggers COVID-19, began in July, including another tool in the fight against the global pandemic,” NSW Health said.

” There is no proof COVID-19 is transferred by means of wastewater systems.”
