LEXINGTON, Ky. (UK Public Affairs)— The University of Kentucky will begin a regimen of random testing amongst its trainee population, university officials announced Friday, as part of ongoing efforts to utilize science and information to drive decisions around keeping the community safe.

The statement, suggested by UK’s START team, follows a productive discussion in which senior leaders engaged earlier in the week with Dr. Deborah Birx, the national coronavirus response coordinator.

Here are details of next actions:

  • Beginning Friday, UK Health Corps will begin alerting trainees that they have actually been chosen for required random COVID-19 screening. The screening routine will occur only among the student population that is physically concerning school.
  • These tests will be administered at no cost to students, through UK’s existing student screening site at The 90 and at the brand-new trainee testing lane at the community website at College Method.
  • This random testing will happen throughout the rest of the semester.

Directed by recommendations from federal professionals, in addition to the START team of first-rate clinicians and specialists, authorities said they believe this initiative will continue to make the school a safer location to meet UK’s objectives of education, research, service and care. Data collected through this process will even more notify decisions.

This initiative bolsters and matches existing, ongoing efforts created to alleviate the spread of COVID-19, which include:

” Whatever we do is developed– and implemented– with one goal in mind: keeping you safe,” UK President Eli Capilouto stated.
