A summer wedding in southwest Minnesota is the source of a minimum of 70 coronavirus cases, state contagious illness director Kris Ehresmann said Wednesday.

The number has actually grown from 58 on Friday to 70 at last count, she stated by e-mail.

The wedding event, reception and “dance” occurred Aug. 22 at KB’s Bar and Grill in the small town of Ghent, the regional health authority, Southwest Health and Person Providers, stated in a statement.

Ehresmann described the festivities as “inside” and stated they surpassed state capacity and social distancing guidelines.

Southwest Health and Person Providers in late August asked guests and their close contacts to willingly quarantine.

At a news conference last week, Ehresmann revealed issue that participants weren’t taking the scenario seriously enough. “We’re hearing that people are not being tested to prevent driving numbers up,” she said.

Those who prevent being tested “simply make it even worse” due to the fact that they could unwittingly be infecting others, Ehresmann stated. “None people are an island,” she stated.

The state Health Department is not able to track secondary transmission associated with the wedding event and other events, such as the Sturgis, South Dakota, motorcycle rally, which is the source of 51 cases in Minnesota, state officials stated throughout their newest news conference Wednesday.

They suggested that the department has its hands complete just tracking cases directly associated to noncompliant occasions.

Full protection of the coronavirus break out

Ehresmann said the department is continuing to track patients who went to the wedding. Amongst them are people who spanned nine Minnesota counties, consisting of “teachers, long-lasting care workers, and health care employees,” she said.

Gov. Tim Walz stated recently that celebrations indoors and outside are adding to a higher-than-average variety of cases in the state

” Families blending together not in their immediate family,” he stated. “That’s precisely the type of thing we’re seeing is having an influence on a few of the spread.”

The state has counted81,868 COVID-19 cases and 1,869 deaths.

Health authorities in Maine have stated an Aug. 7 wedding event in Penobscot County was the source of a minimum of 147 coronavirus cases, consisting of secondary infections. 3 deaths have been linked to the wedding, which 65 people went to, according to the state’s Center for Illness Control and Prevention.
