BETONG, Sept 25– Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the state is on “red alert” for those coming back after the Sabah polls, on the possibility of them being infected with Covid-19
He stated neighbouring Sabah is now a red zone for Covid-19 with a worrying number of brand-new cases being registered each day, compared to Sarawak which has tape-recorded absolutely no cases in the last couple of days and up until today.
” Just the other day we have some 500 cops from the state sent to Sabah to re-enforce their Sabahan counterparts,” the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman said he stated at an event to honour Public Functions Department retirees.
” We have regional senior politicians too going there to project and citizens going there to cast their votes and after that come back.”
” Taking a look at the trend, recent reports had actually shown that those returning from Sabah had tested positive for the illness. This indicates we can not state we are safe,” he added.
He included the Sarawak federal government has now imposed a variety of new requirements for those returning from Sabah.
He said the state needs to form a protective guard around Sarawak versus another possible outbreak, including that everybody needs to abide by the basic operation procedures.
” We need to be on our guard and anybody going out of the state or overseas on official tasks or tourism, we have to quarantine you for 14 days at designated hotels on your return.
” We are not only protecting you or your family but the society at big. We have to be firm as it is a very hard time and circumstance,” Uggah stated.
On the senior citizens, Uggah who is the Minister of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development invited them to take up modern-day farming like fertigation or hydroponic which did not require much land or workforce.
” I am promoting agriculture amongst you as we want to be a net food producer and exporter by 2030.
” Then we can minimize our trade deficit which stood at RM4billion in 2015 besides creating earnings for individuals,” he included.
