NEW YORK, Sept 29– New york city City will enforce fines on individuals who refuse to wear a face covering as the rate of favorable tests for the novel coronavirus climbed above 3 per cent for the very first time in months, Mayor Bill de Blasio stated today.

Authorities will first use complimentary masks to those caught not wearing one. If the person refuses, they will deal with an undefined fine, de Blasio told reporters.

” Our objective, naturally, is to give everyone a totally free face mask,” de Blasio said. “We do not want to fine individuals, but if we need to we will.”

The brand-new rule extends across the city a similar policy imposed earlier this month by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, controlled by New York state governor Andrew Cuomo, in which commuters who refuse to wear a mask on public transit face a US$50(RM208) fine.
