Eleven new cases were reported in Saskatchewan on Monday, along with one more recovery, putting total recoveries at 1,580.

Eight new cases were reported in Saskatchewan on Sunday after five new cases of COVID-19 and one more recovery on Saturday. This as the province nears the start of school and prepares to open its first drive-thru testing facilities.

Two of the new cases on Monday were in the province’s Far North West, two in Saskatoon, two in the Central West, and one in each of the Central East, South West, South Central and South East regions. The location of one case is pending. One person remains hospitalized in intensive care in Saskatoon.

These new cases come after 2,123 people were tested for the virus on Friday, 2,081 on Saturday, and 1,861 on Sunday, as the provincial government continues to push for a daily testing capacity of 4,000 ahead of the start of the school year on Tuesday.

With this goal in mind, the province announced on Friday that drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites will soon be open in Regina and Saskatoon.

Regina’s site at Hall C of the International Trade Centre at Evraz Place opens Tuesday, and Saskatoon’s site at 3630 Thatcher Avenue will follow on Thursday. People do not need a referral to get tested at these sites, only their Saskatchewan Health Card. Drive-thru testing will be first come, first served so there may be wait times.

Voluntary testing for students at certain high schools in the province will also soon be available. Starting Sept. 14, students at Campbell Collegiate in Regina, Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon and Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert can be tested if they so choose.

Of Saskatchewan’s 1,662 cases, 252 are travellers, 834 are community contacts including mass gatherings, 491 have no known exposures and 85 are under investigation by local public health.

To date, 150,737 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province and 24 deaths have been reported.
