( Reuters) – Air Canada stated on Thursday it has introduced a voluntary COVID-19 research study of international tourists entering into Toronto’s Pearson Airport as part of a campaign to encourage the government to lift travel restrictions such as its 14- day quarantine.

Under the research study, set to start on Thursday, taking part guests will offer samples to be evaluated for COVID-19 using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests upon arrival and in two follow-ups to establish how many tourists get here contaminated.

” Our study will provide data to help figure out if an airport-based COVID-19 surveillance program is possible, whether self-collection of COVID-19 testing works, and to explore options relating to the 14- day quarantine for international travel,” Air Canada stated.

Canada’s borders are now near all noncitizens except for vital workers, and Canadians who get in the nation from abroad must self-isolate for 2 weeks.

The majority of providers and airports around the world support the idea of testing to change government-imposed quarantines. They think a layered approach consisting of actions like temperature checks, cleaning and mask-wearing can change quarantines.

A U.N. aviation task force is expected to weigh in on one industry proposal at a meeting on Sept. 15, airline company group IATA said.

Canada’s biggest carrier stated the month-long research job would be performed with McMaster HealthLabs and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

Smaller sized rival WestJet recently announced its own screening plans for travelers departing Vancouver’s worldwide airport.

Reuters reported on Thursday that a union of significant airline companies have actually contacted the U.S. and British federal governments to release a coronavirus testing trial for travelers on flights between London and New York.
