Architecture firm GómezPlatero has designed and will develop the first monolith for victims of the pandemic to be located in Uruguay.
The huge circular structure will work as an impacting sensory experience that bridges the gap between the metropolitan and natural worlds, developing an ideal environment for introspection. It will rest on the edge of an untamed area of city waterfront situated in Uruguay, accessible just by a long pedestrian walkway that draws the visitor gradually away from the noises and sights of metropolitan life till they are totally immersed in the presence of nature.
At the center of the platform, an open void to the rolling ocean beneath allows individuals to observe nature in its most marvelous, purest state, advising us of our own fragility. At 40 meters in size, with an open center that is 10 meters in size, the memorial can invite approximately 300 visitors at a time (while complying with present social distancing guidelines), enabling minutes of shared grief and solidarity in addition to privacy.
And this is why architecture firms earn money the big bucks. If they had actually opted for my idea they would’ve ended up with a big frowny-face constructed of utilized N95 masks, which I guess is less of a memorial and more of a, uh, actual stack of garbage.
Keep choosing more photos of the style as well as the discount video launched by the firm.
