HONG KONG (Reuters) – Betting revenue in Macau plunged 94.5%in July year-on-year, with gambling establishments reeling from a lack of visitors worldwide’s greatest gambling establishment center regardless of a loosening of quarantine restrictions which have actually seen just a modest rise in bettors.

July’s figure of 1.3 billion patacas ($16289 million) remained in line with experts’ expectations of a drop of around 95 percent.

Casinos are looking at heavy losses for the 2nd quarter, with not much expect a near-term recovery as a resurgence in coronavirus cases muddies the outlook for when China will restore travel visas.

Even after reducing curbs for some tourists, Macau saw only around 2,000 visitors per day in July, a tiny portion of the 108,000 day-to-day average in 2019, as the private travel scheme through which visitors from the mainland gain entry remains suspended.
