The Cuttack district
administration has granted permission to organise neighborhood Durga pujas with no parish in pandals and in stringent adherence to social distancing norms, an official stated.
The puja committees can celebrate the festival in the silver city of Odisha without breaching the COVID-19 standards, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani said.
” Preserving social distancing norms, avoiding mass events and wearing masks, the organisers can hold Durga puja at their respective pandals,” Chayani said.
Puja organisers can carry out the routines but no churchgoers will be allowed the pandals, he said.
The Durga puja committees invited the district administration’s choice and stated they will follow the health safety standards in the pandals and likewise throughout immersion of the idols.
Previously, the district collector had declined to permit to arrange the Durga pujas in October in the wake of the existing coronavirus pandemic, following which the Balu Fete Puja Committee, among the earliest community puja organisers in the city, approached the Orissa High Court, seeking its intervention for the extension of a 500- year- old tradition.
At least 167 committees commemorate the Durga puja celebration in the city with pomp and gaiety.
