Local residents may no longer be able to have visitors to their home but the majority of other stage two restrictions remain unchanged.

Residents of Greater Geelong, Colac Otway, Golden Plains, Moorabool, Borough of Queenscliffe and Surf Coast are not under the stringent restrictions faced by those in the Melbourne and Mitchell Shire and can still catch up with family at friends in public places or a restaurant.

Residents can have public gatherings of up to 10 people at a park, the beach, a restaurant or cafe, or a community hall.

Members of your household are counted as part of the 10-person limit, however if more than 10 people ordinarily live together they can meet in a public place as a household.

Residents are still allowed to travel, but only with the people they live with.

The restrictions apply to where you live and remain with you if you leave that area, unless the area you are entering has tighter restrictions – in which case you must follow those rules.

If you live in Geelong and travelling outside of Greater Geelong you must not visit people, have visitors or share a holiday house with other families.

Bendigo residents going to Ocean Grove must follow the restrictions of the Surf Coast Shire and cannot have visitors to their accommodation or visit anyone.

The accommodation operators will need to provide refunds to people who can no longer go on a planned holiday and are eligible to receive assistance through Business Victoria.

Similarly residents can still go to an indoor cinema, a concert venue, theatre or auditorium, with a maximum of 20 seated patrons allowed in each enclosed indoor space at any one time.

Outdoor concert, theatres or auditoriums must also meet gathering limits and the one person per four square metre rule.

Gyms, yoga studios and swimming pools will also remain open.

A DHHS spokesman said the new restrictions were designed to protect the community.

“Recently we have seen a significant jump in cases in regional communities and it is vital we slow the spread of this virus and protect regional Victorians,” he said.

“Throughout this pandemic every change we make to restrictions has been guided by the evidence and advice from the Chief Health Officer.

“The data is telling us where transmission of the virus is happening – that’s in workplaces and at family and social gatherings.

“We know these changes can be difficult, but it’s about reducing the transmission of this virus, protecting the people you love, keeping all Victorians safe and saving lives.”

All Victorians over 12 must wear a mask or face covering from Monday.
