Hyderabad: The Telangana health department on Sunday reiterated that private hospitals dealing with Covid-19 cases do not have to adhere to the ceiling on what they can charge patients as long as such patients have some type of insurance.

In a news release, the Director of Public Health restated: “The rates are not relevant to patients subscribing (to) insurance plans in addition to patients being treated under various agreements/MoUs entered into by the healthcare facilities and different sponsored groups or business entities.”

This arrangement was introduced in a federal government order issued on July 6 on the topic of fixing Covid-19 treatment rates at personal hospitals. The order was released making modifications to a previous government order released on the same subject on June 15.

The director of health said these orders make it clear regarding what the clients can be charged by personal hospitals. In the June 15 order, the government topped the everyday charges for ‘routine ward seclusion’ at Rs 4,000, ‘ICU without ventilator seclusion’ at Rs 7,500, and ‘ICU with ventilator isolation’ at Rs 9,000

These charges were to consist of regular investigations such as X-rays, blood tests and so on, along with drugs, along with consultations.

What was left out from the caps were numerous interventional treatments such as CT and MRI scans and the Covid-19 screening charges.

In the 2nd order issued on July 6, the federal government stated it was omitting ‘high-end drugs like immunoglobins, Meropenem, Tocilizumab, etc., in addition to parenteral nutrition’ which were initially included by using the word ‘drugs’ in the June 15 orders. All of these, it stated in its July 6 changed order, might be charged at the optimum list price.
