The facility was meant to be handed over to the Health Department next week.

The future of the extension now hangs in the balance.

It’s alleged a group of community members set fire to the building after the city prevented them from invading land.

“It’s very frustrating that what has taken weeks for us to prepare has been damaged in a space of few minutes,” said Zahid Badroodien, Community Service and Health MMC.

“Thousands of people are going to suffer because of the actions of people who are trying to invade land illegally and to set up illegal structures in the City.”
