Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt revealed Wednesday that he has evaluated positive for COVID-19, the first known guv to be identified with the novel coronavirus.

Stitt, a Republican, informed press reporters throughout a press conference that he was tested Tuesday “and the outcomes returned positive.”

” I feel fine,” he said, including, “I felt a bit achy yesterday.”

Stitt’s statement comes as Oklahoma set a new record for daily reported infections at 1,075 on Wednesday. The guv has resisted instituting a statewide mask order amidst rising case counts throughout the state and much of the southern U.S., preserving his posture Wednesday as he revealed his favorable test.

Stitt came under criticism in March when he posted a picture of his family at a dining establishment stating “It’s jam-packed tonight!” Stitt later erased the tweet.

He remained in participation President Donald Trump’s rally in Tulsa about 3 and a half weeks back, where several Trump project staffers and Secret Service workers had evaluated favorable for the infection.

Tulsa City-County Health Department Director Dr. Bruce Dart stated last week that the rally and surrounding protests “most likely contributed” to a surge in brand-new coronavirus cases across the state.

” In the past couple of days, we have actually seen almost 500 new cases, and we had several big occasions just over two weeks ago, so I think we simply connect the dots,” Dart stated.
