As the Gaspé region prepares for the arrival of thousands of summer tourists, local authorities have deployed health squads tasked with ensuring measures are taken to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.
The teams began their activities this week in Carleton-sur-Mer, Haute-Gaspésie and Côte-de-Gaspé.
Gaspé’s regional health authority says the squads have received the close collaboration of municipalities that are local tourist attractions.
The 10-member squads will be on duty from noon to 8 p.m. daily until the middle of August. The distribution of masks will also take place.
Mobile testing labs that will operate without appointments will also be deployed in the parts of the Gaspé that are most popular during tourist season. The first lab began operations Wednesday in Percé, on the grounds of the former Motel Flynn on Highway 132.
The population of Percé is 3,200, but that number increases dramatically during tourist season.
