Coronavirus in Ireland-- Publicans urge authorities to let customers alcohol at bar counters when bars resume
PUBLICANS are advising authorities to let consumers booze at bar counters when pubs are reopened.
Paul Moynihan, of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, stated that many public houses and bars will not be practical if counter usage is not permitted.

Boozers are intending to resume on August 10, after the resuming date was delayed due to an increase in Covid-19 cases this month.
Moynihan told Newstalk‘s The Hard Shoulder that a lot of rural pubs rely on usage of the bar counter.
He stated: “In a great deal of rural bars … the counter is extremely important.
” The counter in a lot of bars uses up a lot of room, so if you take out the counter use in any kind you leave it unviable for many pubs.
” You might most likely get 20 individuals around the counter in my club … with seating in other places for around 40-45 It’s a reasonable chunk of the seating.
” It’s intrinsic to the atmosphere of a bar.”
Moynihan added that they would be willing to install a screen between bar staff and customers for security factors.
He stated that although that is not an ideal circumstance, there are an “dreadful lot of bars” with no other area readily available.
He added: “It’s simply a matter of attempting to get open – that’s all we’re trying to do.
” What we’re attempting to state to the powers to be here is that we can do an excellent task here.
