The announcement Wednesday afternoon by Clemson University that guideline for the fall semester will begin online has more clouded what the instant future holds for the school’s football season and other fall sports teams.

Clemson President Jim Clements announced that the semester will start as scheduled on Aug. 19 with online instruction, with in-person instruction delayed until Sept. 21.

” Today’s announcement as it relates to in-person direction does not change athletic plans at this time,” Clemson Athletic Department representative Jeff Kallin said. “We continue to work carefully with the university and ACC, and want to share more in the near future.”

Clemson’s football group is set up to start its season at Georgia Tech on Sept. 3, then has actually house games set versus Louisville on Sept. 12 and Akron on Sept. 19.

Two conferences, the Big 10 and the Pac-12, have revealed that their teams will be playing conference challengers just. The ACC, SEC and Big 12 have actually not made announcements regarding their scheduling, however Clements made it clear that both Clemson and South Carolina will make every effort to continue their annual season-ending rivalry.

” All of us wish to play it,” Clements stated during a Zoom teleconference Wednesday afternoon. “It is necessary. We’re going to do our best to make sure that takes place.”

Graham Neff, Clemson’s Deputy Director of Athletics, added during the teleconference that Athletic Director Dan Radakovich and University of South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner are pursuing the same objective, “which is a fall football season.”

Meanwhile, some schools have actually suggested that fall sports would depend on whether all students are on campus.

NCAA President Mark Emmert has actually stated he does not envision a situation where sports will unfold this fall if all students are not on campus.

” All of the Division I commissioners and every president that I have actually talked with is in clear arrangement: If you don’t have students on campus, you don’t have student-athletes on campus,” Emmert stated May 9. “That does not indicate it has to be up and running in the complete typical design, but you have actually got to deal with the health and wellness of the athletes a minimum of as much as the routine trainees. If a school doesn’t reopen, then they’re not going to be playing sports. It’s truly that easy.”

Move-in for Clemson students living on campus is scheduled to start Sept. 13 and all existing constraints on campus events and events will remain in place till more notice.
