Spain’s northeastern Catalonia region on Saturday locked down a location with around 200,000 homeowners near the town of Lerida following a rise in cases of the new coronavirus.

It had already opened its frontiers to individuals from the EU’s visa-free Schengen zone and Britain on June 21.

” We have decided to restrict the del Segria zone following information validating a sharp increase in Covid-19 infections,” Catalonia’s regional president Quim Torra informed reporters, including that no one would be allowed to go into or leave the area.
