Recently established models utilize adenovirus-mediated delivery of human ACE2, however both types of model still express mouse ACE2, which does not mediate viral entry, therefore limiting their energy

In the CRISPR– Cas9 version, You-Chun Wang from the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, Beijing, and collaborators placed cDNAs of human ACE2 into exon 2 of the mouse Ace2 gene, situated on the X chromosome, to eliminate mouse Ace2 expression. A drawback of the design, however, is that mice developed just moderate infection; no clinical symptoms of COVID-19 or death were seen in this humanized ACE2 model.
