Even Twitter confesses was too heavy-handed with its false information labels for posts about COVID-19, especially those about the unproven connection in between coronavirus infections and 5G cellular connectivity.

A Twitter Support thread on Friday discussed how back in April the platform began highlighting possibly misleading posts around coronavirus and unreliable reasons for the infectious disease. Twitter’s efforts might’ve gone too far.

” Not all of those Tweets had potentially deceptive material associating COVID-19 and 5G,” Twitter confessed.

To show context about these topics where it’s most likely to be helpful, we’re building brand-new automated capabilities to apply these labels to Tweets we think might be appropriate.

As we improve this process to be more accurate, our objective is to show less labels on unrelated Tweets. (4/4)

The fact-checking procedure was getting slapped onto stories and tweets that weren’t full of misinformation, just simply linked or associated with the 5G-corona topic.

So Twitter is assuring to improve the automation process for labels and make sure fewer labels are posted on “unrelated” tweets. Just posts and tweets that perpetuate unsubstantiated claims must get caught in Twitter’s system once it’s updated.

By the way, even with the labeling roll-back, 5G still doesn’t trigger coronavirus.
