Dr. Jay Bhattacharya is a professor of medicine at Stanford University. He is a research study partner at the National Bureau of Economic Research study and a senior fellow at both the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research Study and the Stanford Freeman Spogli Institute. His March 24, 2020, article in the Wall Street Journal concerns the facility that “coronavirus would eliminate millions without shelter-in-place orders and quarantines.” In the post he recommends that “there’s little evidence to confirm that facility– and projections of the death toll could plausibly be orders of magnitude too high.” In this edition of Unusual Understanding with Peter Robinson we asked Dr. Bhattacharya to defend that declaration and explain to us how he got to this conclusion. We enter into the information of his research study, which used information collected from hotspots worldwide and his background as a medical professional, a medical researcher, and an economic expert. It’s not popular today to question conventional wisdom on sheltering in place, however Dr. Bhattacharya makes a strong case for challenging it, based in economics and science.
